Two Bristol entrepreneurs, Toluwa Hughes and Julz Davis, have been recognized in the Wray Forward Powerbook 2026, a list spotlighting 25 exceptional Black entrepreneurs in the UK. This prestigious recognition highlights their significant contributions to the business world, with both founders making strides in their respective fields.
Hughes, founder of Zoah Consultancy, and Davis, founder of Curiosity UnLtd, are celebrated for their unique approaches to business. Zoah Consultancy is a bespoke leadership development firm that specializes in enhancing workplace trends through behavioral coaching, helping leaders and teams achieve better outcomes. Curiosity UnLtd, on the other hand, operates as a think-and-do tank, co-creating innovative solutions and adventures in racial and social justice. These ventures not only reflect their entrepreneurial spirit but also their commitment to driving positive change in society.
Backing Black Founders Nationwide
The Powerbook is an initiative of Wray Forward, a cost-free business accelerator program established by Wray & Nephew in partnership with Foundervine. This program is designed to support Black founders across the UK by providing essential resources such as financial support, educational workshops, mentorship, and networking opportunities. By addressing the unique challenges faced by Black entrepreneurs, Wray Forward aims to create a more inclusive and supportive business environment.
Obeng also highlighted the persistent barriers to funding and growth that many Black entrepreneurs face, showing the need for continued support and advocacy. The program’s success is evident in the remarkable businesses built by its participants, but there is still much work to be done to ensure equitable access to resources.
Honoring Bristol’s Black Communities
Davis shared her vision for Bristol: “My dream is to transform Bristol into the best city for people of all colours, all cultures, and all classes.” This ambitious goal reflects her dedication to supporting inclusivity and equity in the city. Her work with Curiosity UnLtd is a sign of her commitment to creating a Bristol where everyone, regardless of background, can thrive.
The recognition of Hughes and Davis is part of a broader effort to uplift Bristol’s Black communities. Initiatives like Better Business, launched by Bristol24/7, aim to help businesses flourish while positively impacting the city and its residents. Better Business is designed to support a collaborative environment where businesses can grow and contribute to the social and economic well-being of Bristol. This initiative complements the efforts of entrepreneurs like Hughes and Davis, who are working to create a more inclusive and prosperous city.
