Bristol-based environment artist Andrew Hood is set to present his new exhibition, Between Cities, at Clifton Contemporary Art starting November 7. The show runs through November 28, with a private view on the opening day. The gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sundays. Hood, who is based at Jamaica Street Studios, draws on his extensive travel for inspiration, visiting locations such as Tuscany, Morocco, and the Cornish coast. The main exhibition image, a depiction of Bristol Centre, measures 105×85 cm and is available courtesy of the artist.
The Between Cities exhibition features Hood’s work depicting both his home city and international destinations. The display includes urban environments from France and scenes from the bazaars of New Delhi, alongside paintings of Bristol. Hood describes his artistic approach as a balance between observation and abstraction. He blends texture, light, and memory to create a sense of beauty in the everyday. His work also highlights the wider artistic community, as Jamaica Street resident artists kick off a busy Autumn season of Open Studio weekends, and Bristol Gallery Weekend returns for a third successive year.
“From familiar streets and landmarks to unfamiliar places seen for the first time, the exhibition explores the different ways a city can be experienced, remembered and translated into paint,” Hood said. This perspective extends beyond the canvas, as Hood is also set to exhibit at KIT FORM. Furthermore, viewers have the chance to win one of three copies of “The Sauna Guide to South West England” book.
